Vincent

I heard this song on the radio the other day. Though it was not my first time listening to it, the lyrics kinda got me thinking. It's a sad song written by Don Mclean about the painter Vincent Van Gogh and named after one of his famous paintings--"Starry Night".

The painter did this piece when he was at a mental institution coz he was suffering from madness, he committed suicide after that shortly. The even sadder thing was that he only ever sold one painting in his whole life and it was only after his death that he became so famous.Sighz.

Haha I may not seem like an art-farty person but surprisingly I am! (but not in the snobbish way) Anyone who feels as much as I over this song tell me, I would love to have a chat about it!

Don Mclean
Vincent

Starry starry night

Paint your palette blue and gray

Look out on a summer's day

With eyes that know the darkness in my soul

Shadows on the hills

Sketch the trees and the daffodils

Catch the breezes and winter chills

In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand

What you tried to say to me

How you suffered for your sanity

How you tried to set them free

They would not listen

They did not know how

Perhaps they'll listen now

Starry starry night

Flaming flowers that brightly blaze

Swirling clouds in violet haze

Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue

Colors changing hue

Morning fields of amber grain

Weathered faces lined in pain

Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

For they could not love you

But still your love was true

And when no hope was left in sight on that

Starry starry night

You took you life as lovers often do

But I could have told you, Vincent

This world was never meant

For one as beautiful as you

Starry starry night

Portraits hung in empty halls

Frameless heads on nameless walls

With eyes that watch the world and can't forget

Like the strangers that you've met

The ragged man in ragged clothes

The silver thorn of bloody rose

Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know

What you tried to say to me

How you suffered for your sanity

How you tried to set them free

They would not listen

They're not listening still

Perhaps they never will.

heya, I like this song too. It's such a sad and melancholy song. But yet there is so much meaning in it. Like how the world has let him down by not loving him. It;s kinda oxymoronic too. Cuz though they didn't love him then, now they absolutely love his works. Human's are such flicker people.
