What I have been up to...

Okay i'm back from Spain and alot of people have been asking me what is there to see and do over there, my answer is buildings, buildings and more buildings!
Whatever can be built, be it sculptures or houses or public parks, you can trust the Spanish to have it made in the funkiest way.
Known as the Modernismo movement, it is where artists and architects just abandon all sense of the common and go wild and abstract with their creations.
Which explains why the building above has a funky orange-coloured tile roof and looks like a castle...
And there is more...

Rooftop on one of Barcelona's beloved architect Antoni Gaudi's buildings called "La Pederra"....
I thought it was quite cool.

A hospital that's classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for architecture. I wouldn't mind staying in such a good looking place when i'm sick if you ask me, as long as the insides are not as old as the outsides haha...

Another random Modernismo building

Hansel and Gretel-inspired Gingerbread House by Gaudi in Park Guell (pronounced as Park 'Weaaayyy', like your mouth is twisted to one side)

And then there's all the sculptures we saw...the one above is called
Joan Miro: "Caress of a Bird"

Joan Miro: "Woman and Bird"

All of which inspired us to come up with an abstract piece of "art" sculpture ourselves,

self-titled...

"Two Idiots Staring at Eggs on Chairs!"

And last but not least, for old time's and just plain boliao's sake...
Nothing says it better that you are in a foreign country where English is not the usual medium of speech better than seeing the item, "Coocked from Madrid" that costs 15euros (S$30!) from a menu outside a cafe!

Choices...

Recent events to the people around me has got me thinking about the decisions we have to make in life. When we come to the crossroads, which path should we take? In times like this, do we take the broad and attractive lane we know will lead us to nowhere? Or do we have the courage to embark on the narrow and crooked path out of the mess, even if it means we have to do it alone ?
If we cannot decide, should we just give up and turn back to the path we came from in the first place? For comfort and familiarity's sake, eventhough we know it's a pithole with no hope of a future?

What do we do?
Life is, after all, all about choices isn't it?

We make the choices, then our choices make us.

Make the right choice, and our choice will make our lives alright.

DREAD...

Never felt so much dread and repulsion for an exam before.

The notes are in front, the eyes are looking but Mr Brain has long gone on an indefinite vacation.

You know they say that the worse feeling is not the actual event, its in the anticipation of it,

the dread of knowing how bad it's going to be.

But yet, having to wait for it to come while watching the minutes crawl by like hours.

Arrgghh....just spare the blindfold and get on with it!

When will the agony end?

Toilet Humor

In between my exams now, just had a paper today that I think just went flushed down the toilet. But not just any other toilet, its the super duper automated high-tech toilet seat that I came across in Japan!

They keep the toilet seat warmed up for you in winter through some heater that runs through the toilet bowl.
And different buttons at the side lets you do so many things you never thought of doing in a cubicle.
One button gives you a butt spray and another plays the music of a flushing sound.
Haha! Isn't it a toilet bliss?
But the funniest thing was I read in the papers that the company producing those 'special' toilet bowls, TOYO, is now facing lawsuits after one of the bowls caught fire while someone was on it! Hohoho... i sure pity that poor girl man...

Okie enough crapping, (pun not intended)

Back to my lonely cubicle to be with stacks of paper and analyse loads of shit ...
(i mean studying by the way)

Sitting Duck...

Three presentations, three modules, all having the dreaded segment of "Q&A discussion".
I am just a sitting duck waiting to be shot down!

Recent quotes that caught my eye...

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good
conscience to remain silent"
-- Thomas Jefferson

"A tyrant's best ally has always been an apathetic populace.
Citizens of Germany learned that awful truth in 1939."
-- Doug Thompson

"Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God."
-- Thomas Jefferson

Fishleong's Ongoing Repeating
Melody Results in a Head Jam Jialat!

I've finally found what I have been waiting for :)

The things people build.....

I only recently got into reading the comic "Calvin and Hobbes" (Hobbes pronounced as 'hor-orbs', not ho-bei !!)
And I realised that the comic actually makes quite a few statements about life and people through the use of simple analogy. Haha, don't know if its because i'm reading too much into it but I found it really interesting!
I get the most insightful comprehensions of life through comics man!
Here is an example of one of them:

In life, people often build high walls and strong barriers around themselves emotionally, thinking that by doing so, they can protect themselves and avoid getting hurt by others.
But in the end, their walls get so massive until they find themselves trapped within,
all alone and in need of help afterall.

Sometimes when you least expect it...

Sometimes when you least expect it, God springs you a pretty surprise. :)

Saw this on my floor when the early morning sun rays got refracted through my window panes.
Isn't it pretty?

Today is the First Day of the Rest of My Semester...

First Day of School, New Beginning.
Wonder what, the semester will bring
Got up Bright, but not so early
Felt like going, back to bed comfy
Any way, what I wanted to say
Was that I'm hoping
For the few months coming
That I will be able
To get more 'A's !!!

The only thing that's constant in this world is CHANGE......

In this new year, it got me thinking and looking back,
I realised that.....

Cities can grow from olden to modern, within Decades...

We get older and hopefully wiser, within Years...

Seasons change, people change, within Months...

The weather can shift from Sunny...

to Stormy, within a Day!

(ps: I did not change it to black and white mode for the pic above)

But then, throughout all the change, the ups and downs, breakups and makeups, happy and sad,
it's always comforting to know that there is Something that is always constant, always the same,
yesterday, today and forever.
Something not of this world, but has overcome it.
Something we can always rely on because it never changes and is steadfast throughout everything.

Yep, in this new year of 2007, I shall take this Something as my instruction manual for life in the next 365 days and beyond, since I know it can never go wrong and will never be wrong.

What is this Something you may ask?

Bacon-wrapped Enoki mushroom!

It's the holidays again, I had some free time at home so decided to experiment and try out something new that I ate at a restaurant. Woah! It turned out to be pretty good though it's super fattening and sinful! haha...

But then it's extremely simple, just wrap a long slice of streaky bacon around a bundle of enoki/shitake mushroom or baby asparagus (which is what i'm gona try next!), stick a toothpick through to hold it together, then you either just proceed to dump it into the toaster oven for a few minutes 'til it gets crispy or be more chef-y like me and grill it on an non-stick frying pan, no need oil, coz the bacon produces it or unless you want your face to be oozing out oil like a palm tree. Haa.

Anyway, after 10 minutes or so, viola!

You should have a sinful but delicious snack ready for you and your stomach!
Best for munching in front of the television.
Happy tasting!

For my friend living abroad who wouldn't be able to see this year's Christmas lightup...

Takashimaya Lamp post

One of Four fountains that was put up at the road junction. This one's red, the others are white, gold and green.

The colour theme for this year is gold again. In my opinion, it still can't beat the silvery winter theme they had a few years back.
The most magical one being,
Nov 2001, after the last O'level paper: Silvery windpipes hanging on trees in different lengths that reflect all the colours of the rainbow when light gets into them.
It was good times. Or maybe it was the people I was around with at that time,
my best friends from Cedar=)

Looking for Answers......

Look what I found in the library!
Now if only every school had one of this for its students then we wouldn't have to worry so much about exams and stuff......
Unfortunately like in real life,
the answers are never clear, always blur
and not as thick and complicated as one would expect!

You Know You Have Gained Weight When....

1) You realised that the only part of the body exercised is your mouth and that you have developed strong cheek muscles from stuffing your face too much.

2) A barricade of "no entry" has been set up so that food doesn't travel like an escalator straight up to your gaping cookie-monster-fied mouth.

3) Your parents consider making a similar sign as above but with your face on it instead.

4) Your tummy gets in the way everytime you open and close the fridge door after raiding it.

5) You have trouble cutting your toenails.

And last but not least,

6) A certain guy named Ronald has recently become your best friend!

Writing assignments........

Add that to the fact that we usually rely on writers we don't know to describe research we don't fully understand, performed by people who often have the financial incentives to mislead the population. Then you will have an idea of how screwed up this whole writing process is.

Bottomline: Sorry lah, but I still hate Writing essays! ARGH......
